Inside 'the best bed and breakfast in England' - an adults-only hideaway that feels like it belongs in the south of France (plus, there's award-winning marmalade)

Ailbhe MacMahon checks into Piglets B&B, a boutique retreat that sits in a pastoral pocket of Essex, a few miles northeast of London's Stansted Airport. She reveals: 'It's more a tiny hotel than a B&B, complete with an honesty bar, a creative dinner menu, and amenities so tempting that guests often go days without leaving the property.' The star attraction at the retreat, she says, is the chemical-free swimming pond. Ailbhe writes: 'The gin-clear lagoon is a hit with wild swimmers, undeterred (as I am) by the chilled water temperature.'
From beautiful beaches to mesmerising misty hills: These pictures of 'perfect county' Devon by a former meteorologist will leave you on cloud nine

Devon Moods is a lavish new book by former Met Office scientist Gary Holpin, with words by travel writer Simon Heptinstall, who describes Devon as perfect for a book of landscape images. Simon said: 'It's not only vast, Britain's third biggest county, but it is unique. It has far more variety than any other county: cities, high wilderness, national parks, World Heritage Sites, surfing beaches, pretty coves, rolling farmland, steep wooded estuaries, rocky headlands, long sandy beaches, forests, and soft grassy seashores.'
EXCLUSIVETraveller shares his incredible photo album from a 1970s road trip in a Citroen 2CV through Syria, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan before the Taliban

Dutch native Frank van den Berge, 73, took incredible photographs of his time in these countries on a road trip from Amsterdam to India in 1976. Some of the landmarks he witnessed have since vanished - such as the Buddhas of Bamiyan in central Afghanistan, which were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. The veteran traveller, who has visited more than 100 countries over his lifetime, recently shared his images of this incredible road trip in a Facebook group for adventurers, revealing how he encountered 'great local people everywhere'.
EXCLUSIVEMeet the world's shortest tribe: The Batwa pygmies live on the edge of Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and count mountain gorillas as their neighbours

MailOnline Travel's Laura Sharman (inset) is introduced to a Pygmy family on her journey back from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest after trekking to see the area's mountain gorillas. Anthropologists believe that for 60,000 years, the hunter-gatherer tribe 'thrived in harmony' with the wildlife in the depths of the forest, earning them the reputation as its 'keepers'. However, government efforts to protect its endangered gorilla population, among other animals, saw the Batwa evicted from their homes when the forest was named a national park in 1991.
Inside the 13th-century property in the Lake District named as England's 'best small hotel' for 2023. The Mail checked in to see if it lived up to the hype...

Inside Britain's most remote mainland pub - accessible only by a 40km hike over wild mountainous terrain or a six-mile ferry trip (but the fish and chips is worth the effort)
The Old Forge on the Knoydart peninsula in Scotland is in a village with no roads in or out. So it has a captive market. But Ted Thornhill discovers that it doesn't rest on its laurels. He discovered on a recent visit that it has great service, offers superb comfort food - and generally relishes being at the heart of the unique community.
Inside the French Chateau that 'feels like something from a Disney movie' - and costs under £40 per person a night

My new love affair - with the divine Dolomites (and its amazing snow-making): MARK PALMER on why this 'special part of Italy' trumps the Alps for ski holidays
The Alps or the Dolomites? Mark says: 'As someone who has skied almost every year of his adult life in the former, it feels almost disloyal to come down on the side of the latter. No, there's not a lot of ski-in, ski-out hotel options or hosted chalets, and natural snow cover can be an issue - but what the Dolomiti lack is made up for in its charm, friendliness and spectacular mountain scenery.' Read on for more...
India's gold stars: From a 24-carat temple to a mountain retreat with hypnotic views, prepare to be dazzled

Jo Kessel embarks on a ten-day trip to northern India where she milks cows, stays at a hilltop mountain and visits the Golden Temple, which she describes as 'a holy Sikh shrine with a marble exterior dripping with 24-carat gold'. She adds: 'At night, it glitters, gleams and floats majestically on a pool, its reflection shimmering in the water. By day, the temple takes on a serene, almost ethereal hue.'
I travelled through the Amazon jungle on a cargo ship for three days to the world's largest city inaccessible by road. Here's what I saw...

Mykolas Juodele describes his three-day journey on a cargo ship through Peru's Amazon Rainforest. The goal? To reach the world's largest city inaccessible by road. Extraordinary footage shows part of the 435-mile (700km) voyage along the Amazon River, from Yurimaguas town to the city of Iquitos. Onboard the cargo ship, Mykolas slept among goods and livestock, including several hundred pigs. Video captures some of the sights he encounters along the way, from fruit vendors to an onboard resident cockerel and an Amazon River dolphin poking its head above the water.

After visiting he drives north to the town of Kjerringoy. He describes the scenery on the road to Kjerringoy as pressing 'all the fantasy-Norwegian-fjord buttons'.
Inside the ultimate Dry January staycation hotel - a booze-free Isle of Wight bolthole beloved by 'dry trippers', recovering alcoholics... and guests keen to avoid rowdy venues
It's certainly easier to resist drinking temptations and to combat peer pressure at Somerton Lodge. Owner John Elford (inset) is in long-term recovery for alcohol addiction and has been sober for 20 years. He told MailOnline Travel that there is no alcohol sold on the premises - and that this set-up has proven to be a hit among guests.

He describes the New Course as a 'complete and utter delight' and his accommodation - Hotel du Vin - as 'elegant', with the food served 'divine'.
